Neal and family, I´m sorry for your loss. Burl was a cherished friend and Godly man. I was honored to get to work with him in our jobs as navigators and enjoy many deployments together as well as our golf outings.

Burl, was our teams´ athletic trainer during my head football coaching tenure at Midway. He was my "go to" guy on the sidelines during stressful situations and often knew how to put a brief smile on my face and calm me down in those challenging moments. He was always the last guy out of the field house on Friday nights and never failed to come by my office before leaving to say "Coach T, I´m leaving now but I left my blood pressure cuff in the training room if you need to check yourself!" He was a truly one of a kind great man! He will be missed and I´m honored to have known him.

Burl was a true gentleman. He was a calming force at work and in life. He always seemed to maintain the common sense big picture view while others got lost in the details of those marathon staff meetings mentioned in another comment. I enjoyed his company at work and in retirement. A great man and a very proud father. God bless Burl and his family.

Burl was a legend at the 134th. I fondly recall the story of a particularly long wing staff meeting where Burl reached the end of his attention span and began pushing a pencil across the conference table with his nose in full view of everyone present. The wing commander, Col Cauthen, just threw in the towel called the meeting adjourned. Burl will be forever remembered for his honesty, clarity, and down to earth nature.
