Burton Emory Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by All-States Cremation - Wheat Ridge on Jan. 15, 2026.
Burt was born on March 29th, 1934 in Teaneck, NJ. The 3rd child and 2nd son of James & Lillian Emory. He grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1952. He attended Middlebury College in Vermont achieving a degree in Mathematics in 1956. Drafted in January of 1957, he served in the US Army, stationed at the Pentagon in Washington, DC.

Burt married his longtime high school girlfriend (and neighbor) Ann Jobes on October 4, 1957. They welcomed a daughter in September of 1958. He began his life's career with the Johns Manville Corporation upon his discharge from the Army. JM took them to Nashua, New Hampshire where they added 2 more daughters to their household. Further transfers lead them back to New Jersey, first in Verona and then to Flemington. In 1972, the company moved its headquarters to Denver, Colorado, so the Emory's headed west. There were a few more transfers, including time in Indiana and back to New Hampshire, but CO became the permanent home.

Burt's great love, other than his family, was Indian Lake in Owls Head, New York. Purchased in 1904 by his grandfather, it was the summer retreat of the Emory family for generations. From his birth until 2024, he spent time at the lake-days, weeks, even entire summers. Burt in his red canoe on the water in the early morning is a sight that everyone remembers. Always a dog lover, Burt has almost always had one or two by his side. From Peanut to Martha, George & Ginny, to the beloved Benson & Cassie, Burt loved his dogs. We also remember that he was a huge fan of the Indy 500 and of course, 'his' Denver Broncos.

Burt is survived by his wife Ann of 68 years; 2 of his 3 daughters, Karen (Paul) Olson and Suzanne (Bret) Werkele; 6 grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew (Dana) & Adam (Anne-Sophie) Olson, Katelyn (Zach) Lonergan & Brooke Werkele, and Rachael Emory; 5 great grandchildren, Weston, Nolan & Harper Lonergan and Lucas & Emory Olson. He was Uncle Burt to his nieces and nephews and will be missed by all.

Burt was preceded into eternity by his parents, James & Lillian Emory, his brothers, Richard & John Emory, his sister Blanche Westdyke and his daughter Lisa Emory.

In lieu of any flowers or gifts, Burt would be honored by a contribution to the Mountain View Association https://mountainviewassn.com/support-the-association
