Burton William "Burt" Jacobs

Westerly, R.I. - Burton William "Burt" Jacobs, 83, of Westerly, R.I., passed away May 31, 2024, after a brief illness.

Born in New Haven, Burt was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, as well as a trusted colleague. He proudly and honorably served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963, shaping the patriotism that would remain a hallmark of his entire life.

A dedicated and skilled carpenter at the Electric Boat division of General Dynamics for 25 years, Burt also excelled as a general contractor and ironworker, lending his skill to countless projects around his own home, and for friends. His mastery of carpentry skills were due, in part, to his uncanny mathematical abilities, and the ability to perform detailed calculations in his head. Maybe others need to "measure twice, and cut once," but not Burt. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and fervently following his favorite Boston-area sports teams, the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins. He was also an avid fan of television game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

Known for his selfless and kind nature, Burt also maintained a strong sense of justice, and was a protector and friend to many, including people he didn't personally know. His sense of humor, quick wit, and sharp mind made him popular across many social circles, and he possessed a natural ability to communicate with almost anyone he encountered, in any setting. His family and friends will always remember him for his infectious spirit, and ability to make them laugh.

Burt was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Diehl-Jacobs; his father, William "Billy" Jacobs; and his older sister, Barbara "Gail" Jacobs. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Pattie Jacobs, his steadfast companion; his daughter Michelle Jacobs; his son-in-law Triston Still; his grandsons, Blake and Liam Still; his daughter, Donna Jacobs; his daughter, Jacqueline Jacobs; his granddaughter Gabby Lister; his favorite little sister Patty Mills; his brother-in-law Kenneth Mills; his stepdaughter Tricia Goodman; and his stepson, Marvin "Skip" Goodman.

A Funeral Service with Full Military Honors to honor Burt's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI 02822. Attendees are asked to arrive by 10:45 a.m. outside the Administration Building. Gaffney Dolan Funeral Home in Westerly, RI, is assisting with the funeral arrangements.
