In 1983, Byron married Kathy Meyer of Mina, SD. Later that year they moved to Mina Lake, SD where the had two children, Lisa (1986) and BJ (1988). They lived there until they moved to Eugene, Oregon in 1995. In 2009, Byron and Kathy moved to Brownsville, Oregon where they both have been enjoying retirement the past few years.
Byron, had many joys in life and explored those to the fullest. Some of his greatest joys in life were his family. He enjoyed exploring and riding with his wife and kids, hours long "Sunday drives" were a normal expectation on weekends. Byron so enjoyed becoming a grandfather in 2010, in his later years his granddaughter Patience, was his sidekick going for rides and "protecting" Papa whenever she had the chance. His other passion in life was riding motorcycles. His passion started in his youth when he acquired a little red motorized bike/mo-ped. He finally reached a biker's dream when he was able to purchase his first Harley-Davidson motorcycle in 2004, adding two more to his collection in recent years.
Byron is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Lisa, son BJ and grandchild Patience, as well as a sister Janice and brother John.
He is preceded in passing by both parents Glenn and Lucile and a infant brother.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday February 8th, 2025 at 10 am. A Celebration of Life will follow the same day at Sybaris Bistro in Albany, Oregon from 3-6pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Byron's name to South Dakota State University.

So sorry for you loss. I also had the privilege to work with Byron and have him as a friend and mentor. I worked with Byron at sandvigs and country general. I spent a short time with coastal also. Met Byron and Kathy in 1982 Byron was warehouse manager and worked diligently to vp of coastal. One of my memories was on Sunday morning before church Kathy and the kids would come to take Byron to church. That was my playtime with Lisa and bj. Please accept my condolences.

We remember the two of you as one of our favorite neighbors at Mina Lake and the good times we had bowling and playing games. We missed you as lot when you moved and the only correspondence we basically had were Christmas letters. Ruth and Arlen Humphries, Yuma, AZ.

Byron was my manager for several years. Starting at Sandvigs, then Country General, and finally Coastal Farm and Home. He was my mentor and teacher and friend. He always had my back and guided me through the ups and downs of retail.
When we worked at Sandvigs, Byron had a unique filing system. It was a stack of papers on his desk. It was three inches thick. He knew exactly where everything was at. One weekend when Byron was gone, I had to go through his files for a customer. When he returned Monday he knew right away that someone looked through his papers. Busted!
My condolences to his family. He was a good man.
