Byron Lee "Barry" Stemmler

Byron L. Stemmler, 84, of Blairsville passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Independence Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born on December 18, 1941 to the late Eugene and Julia Chockla Stemmler. He enjoyed a career of retail sales in Pennsylvania and Florida, and worked briefly at ICI, in Derry and Torrance State Hospital. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Derry.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth (Scottie) Harrold Stemmler in 1998, and his second wife Carol (Hull) Bates Stemmler in 2025. He was also preceded in death by his son Jeffrey Stemmler, his stepson Troy Bates, his great grandson Griffin Stemmler and his brother Ronald Stemmler.

Barry is survived by his son Gary and Janet Stemmler of Blairsville, his stepson Mark and Vanessa Bates of Derry, grandchildren Brandon, Kirra, Nicholas and Carly Stemmler, Nathan, Anna Lee and Lucas Bates, and great grandchildren Sofia, Ryder, Jareth, and Riley, his brothers Jerry and Connie Stemmler of Port Orange Florida, and Gilbert and Terry Stemmler of New Derry, and his sister Betty Jean and Bob Smith of New Derry, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his dog Maggie, all who loved him dearly. Barry's greatest love was his family, both past and present, and he loved to have served his country in the Marine reserves. Barry enjoyed coaching his sons little league team, and served his community as a volunteer firefighter in Bakersville, PA.

Barry enjoyed travel, and after a beautiful life with Scottie and their sons, he found love again with Carol, and enjoyed wintering in Cocoa Beach, Florida, near his twin brother, Jerry. He was a NASCAR fan, and a diehard Pittsburgh Pirates and Steeler fan. Despite his life's adversities, he will be remembered for his humor, love of outdoors, and his love for the family camp MilHen. In lieu of flowers, any contributions can be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018, in memory of Scottie and Jeffrey Stemmler.

As per Barry's wishes there will be a small memorial service prior to the interment of his ashes, at a later date.
