C. Carter Obituary

C. Carter, Jr. MCCLELLANVILLE, SC - C. Ray Carter, Jr., of McClellanville, SC, passed away on March 1, 2025 at the age of 92. He was born on September 27, 1932, in Savannah, Georgia to C. Ray Carter and Betty Louise Boyd. He attended Porter Military School and graduated from Bluffton High School. He furthered his education at the Citadel Military College until he was called into service in the Army in 1955. Ray served in the 101st Airborne and was later stationed in Livorno, Italy. In true Ray fashion, he spent his days on the beach as head lifeguard and water safety instructor at Camp Darby. Ray was a jack of all trades...owner of Maye River Redi Mix, insurance agent, Beaufort County councilman, licensed electrician, maintenance director were just some of the many jobs he held over the years. Ray was also a world champion skeet shooter and avid hunter and fisherman. In his later years, he spent his days trading on the stock market. He was known for his generosity, servant's heart, sense of humor and as a gifted storyteller. He started each day in the Word and was faithful in his prayers of Thanksgiving and blessings for his family. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, and one son, C. Ray Carter III. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jan Carter; daughters, Rebecca Achey and Dawn Sparks (Hal); grandchildren, Olivia Achey and Hailey Sparks; sister-in-law, Lesa Edwards; nephews, Steven Edwards and Bill Edwards (Davi); great-nephew, Will Edwards. Burial will be private at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 28 from 6-8 at the Carolina Park Owners Pavilion in Mt. Pleasant, SC. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital.

I am so sorry to hear of Ray´s passing. He was a very good friend of mine and Dick. He was Dick´s best man when we got married. We spent many many hours on the boat and his property up country. I will miss him tremendously.

So sorry for your loss. I know how hard that is. Was going through the same thing with my mom. Bright side, not suffering or pain anymore. He was a great person.

Dear Jan,
I am so sorry to hear about Ray. I remember him well from when we worked together at Tricounty Radiology in the 90's. He was a character back then, a quick whit, always ready to tell a story that made you laugh.
You and your family will be in my prayers in the days ahead.
With kindest regards,
Kim Huff
