Callie Amos Cooke

Peacefully, on July 10th, Callie Amos Cooke Sr. passed from this world. Born in Williamsburg VA on August 10th, 1938, he grew up in the Shenandoah Valley town of Limeton VA. After marrying his high school sweetheart Carol E. Mauck in 1958, the couple moved to Prince Georges County, MD where they raised four children. "Cookie", as he was affectionately known to his co-workers, worked 41 years for the A&P food chain and was a proud member of the old Amalgamated Local #593 and the Commercial Food Workers Local #400. Other interests included beach combing for fossils, bird watching, bluegrass music, model trains, and collecting Christmas memorabilia. A devoted family man, he leaves his grieving wife of 67 years Carol Cooke; daughter Christie Harden (Barry); sons Callie Jr., John, and Samuel; grandchildren Christopher Robey (Rachel), Hanna Padova, Caten Cooke, and Piper Cooke; sisters Helen Cleary, Jane Studley, Ronnee Manuel, Charlene Collins, and Rhonda Romer (Kevin); brothers Larry Cooke and Jeff Cooke; in-laws Helen Pickens, Nancy Hensell (Winston), and Judy Schurtz (Wendell); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. No service is planned at this time.
