Callistus Irolu Agochukwu

Callistus Irolu Agochukwu, a gentle soul, and lover of humanity passed peacefully from this world to meet our heavenly father on the morning of August 22, 2023. He was 83 years old. He was born in Isiekinisi, Imo State, Nigeria to Agochukwu Eluwarugho and Enyide Uzondu. He was a young scholar who always finished at the top of his class, graduating from St Anthony Isiekinisi Elementary School, followed by Bishop Shanahan for high school. He worked as a lab technician after high school in Lagos, Nigeria and was one of 6 scholars selected to travel abroad to London for additional schooling. Following this, he traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana and attended Xavier Pharmacy School where he graduated in 1975. He was no stranger to hard work, and during this time while completing challenging course work, he also worked as a house servant and persevered despite many adversities and challenges.
He went on to have a successful career as a Doctor of Pharmacy, treating countless patients and impacting the lives of those who he came in contact with including his patients, co-workers and students. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open his own pharmacy, as well as several gas stations in New Orleans, with his business "MACFA and Associates". His kind, humble nature was felt by every single person he encountered. He loved people and treated everyone with dignity and respect, regardless of status. He retired after 30 years of service as a pharmacist, in 2005. In his retirement, he continued his philanthropy in his native country of Nigeria through many medical missions including those he did with his wife and children.
He was preceded in death by his son, Chinedu Agochukwu, as well as his dear brothers and sisters. He is survived by a loving family, including his wife of 45 years, Lady Angela Agochukwu, and his 4 children – Uzondu Agochukwu, MD, Ifeanyichukwu Agochukwu, Pharm.D, Nnenaya Agochukwu Mmonu, MD, and Nneamaka Agochukwu Nwubah, MD. His death left a vacuum for his additional dear extended family and friends who feel his absence every single day.
Relative and friends of the family are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Service on October 28, 2023, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, located at 7300 Crowder Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70127 at 11:00am.
