Calvin Briley Obituary

Calvin Stephen "Steve" Briley Stokes - Calvin Stephen (Steve) Briley, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, December 2, 2024 at ECU Health.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1:30 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Steve, a lifelong resident of Stokes, was born November 23, 1948 to Calvin and Dorothy Briley. He graduated from Stokes-Pactolus High School in 1967. He was active in the 4-H Club, where he raised steers for show and peanuts; as well as being president of the Queen Bee Club. He was a county winner in peanut production for 4 years and a district winner for 2 years and he stole runner up for 2 years. Steve went on graduate from Pitt Technical Institute (now PCC) in 1968 with a degree in Automotive Technology. He then spent 4 years in the US Air Force, where he was a member of the Elite Strategic Air Command (SAC) as a Sargent. He was an airborne radar repairman with the 68th Bomb Wing. He originally participated in the cold war, working with B52 Bombers that contained nuclear weapons. He then participated in Operation Arc Light as a Linebacker I and II in the bombing of Vietnam, which contained conventional weapons. After his military service, Steve went on to serve as president of Steve Briley's Automotive Service Center as well as S&W Auto Sales.

Steve attended Sweet Gum Grove FWB Church, where he fell in love with his church family. He had many friendships that felt more like family. Some of his favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing. He will be missed greatly by his family. His family was his everything. He enjoyed making memories with them.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Calvin Briley and brother-in-law, Hubert Brewer.

He is survived by his partner in love of 36 years, Betty Barnes; daughter, Stephanie Stepps (Harvey) of Stokes; sister, Deborah Brewer of Louisa, VA; brother, Michael Briley of Robersonville; grandchildren, Briana Rogerson and Summer Stepps of Stokes; step-grandchildren, Kristen Malagisi, Brook Davis (Josh), Justin Stepps (Leann); 3 great-grandsons; a niece; and a nephew.

Rest in peace Steve, from Mike Hodges in Pfafftown nc. Will always remember our time together in the usaf. Through basic training in Lackland, electronics school in Biloxi, and finally at Seymour Johnson in Goldsboro. You were a good friend.
