Donna Cumbo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Danekas Funeral Chapel & Crematory - Colville on Jan. 3, 2023.
Donna Jane Cumbo
Donna Jane Cumbo, age 82, passed away peacefully on the December 26, 2022 in Colville, Washington. Donna was born on February 18, 1940 to Charles Clark and Wilma Leora (Kern) Drake in Auburn, Washington.
The seventh of eight children, Donna's family had lived in several states, finally settling in Colville, where she would attend Colville High School. Donna would take on her first job here, working at the Auto-Vue Drive-In Theater while attending high school. At a local grange dance, Donna would meet the love of her life, Floyd Elden Cumbo, after being introduced by mutual friends. It was a whirlwind romance, and the two were joined in marriage on June 1, 1957, just at the end of her junior year of high school.
Donna would go on to graduate from Colville High School in 1958, and the next year, she and Floyd would welcome their first of three sons, Clark, followed by Tony and James. While raising the boys, Donna worked part time at the Statesman Examiner stuffing inserts, before going on to work part time at the Colville Bus Depot. As the boys got older and she was able to work more, Donna moved on to managing Empire Lines, Inc., in addition to filling in as a driver as needed before her retirement in 1983.
In her free time, Donna was an avid reader, especially of romance novels. She was also very crafty, sewing, cross stitching, and creating plastic canvas art, including things like book ends and coin banks. She and her husband, Floyd were also very involved in the Colville VFW Post 6963, running the booths at local events and organizing scholarships, along with many other duties. Over the years, Donna held several offices within the VFW Auxiliary. Donna was also involved with the Arden Homemakers, attending weekly meetings and helping sew quilts to donate to local families in need.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Wilma Drake; her loving husband of 51 years, Floyd Elden Cumbo; her son, Clark Cumbo; her grandson, Clark Cumbo; and her siblings, Wayne Drake, Harold Drake, Norma Weimer, Leola "Ilene" Pittman, and Vern Drake.
She is survived by her sons, Tony (Rhonda) and James Cumbo, of Colville; her brothers, Melvin Drake of Colville and Keith Drake of Hayden, Idaho; sister-in-law Barbara Drake of Colville; Brother-in-law Robert Cumbo of Colville; and her grandson, Christian Cumbo of Colville; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Donna will be laid to rest next to her husband, Floyd Cumbo in a private, family graveside service at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville, Washington. A celebration of life will be held in 2023, time and location to be announced at a later date. Please visit the on-line memorial and sign the guestbook at www.danekasfuneralchapel.com. Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is entrusted with the arrangements.

will remember my visits with Aunt Donna and Uncle Floyd when we went up to Colville with Nana Bertie and Mom Barb to visit her, Uncle Floyd, and Uncle Bob/Aunt Doris. I will cherish our last visit in July 2021, catching up with you and Jimmy. You'll be missed tons. Tell Nana, Aunt Doris, and Uncle Floyd hi for me.
