Mr. Calvin Ernest Robinson, Sr. a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather,
brother, and a cherished member of the Pamplico, South Carolina community passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025 after a life of 90 years.. He was born to the late Boria and Allean Burch Robinson on December 13, 1934.
Mr. Robinson attended High Hill Elementary School and was a 1956 graduate of Gibbs High School in Pamplico, South Carolina. His love for his alma mater led him to play on the high school basketball team and serve as a school bus driver. Upon graduation, Calvin became an employee of Gibbs High School and served as the janitor during the day and worked on the loading dock for Overnight Freight Company in the evenings. His ambition and desire to better provide for his family led Calvin to become employed by Atlantic Coast Line Railroad wherein he worked himself up from Porter to Baggage Master. He later joined Seaboard Coastline Railroad and worked his way from Flagman to Conductor. Calvin loved the Railroad, but his career was cut short by a terrible train accident which rendered him physically unable to continue. He took time off while on disability to attend Florence Darlington Technical College and later started C. E. Robinson Trucking. After he left the trucking business, Calvin was employed with the South Carolina Highway Department in the fleet maintenance shop. During Calvin’s career he also ran a small farm along with his family.
On June 26, 1956, Calvin married his high school sweetheart, Georgia Lee McWhite and this union was blessed with four children; Kathy S. Robinson, Dr. Shirley S. Robinson, Baby Boy Robinson, and Reverend Dr. Calvin E. Robinson, Jr.
As a former member of Mill Branch African Methodist Episcopal Church in Pamplico, South Carolina; Calvin sought the Lord at a young age and served in the church as an adult on the Usher Board exemplifying Psalm 84:10 “I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of My God,” and as a Steward of the church. In His twilight years he became a member of Trinity Baptist Church under the leadership of his son, the Reverend Dr. Calvin Robinson, Jr.
Mr. Robinson had a great passion for coon hunting and his prized coon dogs of which there were many; and he also loved fishing. In his later years, he gained a love for watching sports and westerns on television. Calvin was great with his hands and utilized his skills while repairing cars, trucks, tractors, tractor trailers, his boats, and lawn mowers.
Mr. Robinson was predeceased by his parents, Boria and Allean B. Robinson; a son, Baby Boy Robinson; five siblings: Baby Lucille Robinson, Mildred Robinson McElveen, Rosevelt “Jack” Robinson, Harry L. Robinson, and Jerry C. Robinson; a grandson, Bennie E. Greene, Jr.; and a great granddaughter, Emryn Troupe. He was also predeceased by six in-laws, Leverne McElveen, Major Bennie E. Greene, Sr., Selma Robinson, Andrew Wilson, Diane McWhite, and Dixie McWhite.
Mr. Calvin Ernest Robinson, Sr’s. memory will be kept alive by his loving and adoring wife of 68 years, Georgia M. Robinson of the home; three children, Kathy S, Robinson, Dr. Shirley S. Robinson, and Reverend Dr. Calvin E. (Ann) Robinson, Jr.; four grandchildren, Quincy S. (Sophear) Greene, Avril A. (Demetrius) Troupe, Amel A. (Delanore) Troupe and Calvin E. (Briana) Robinson, III; eight great grandchildren, Quincy “Deux” Greene, Natalie S. Greene, Naomi Greene, Kiros Troupe, Khari Troupe, Demetrius “Koa” Troupe, Calvin E. “Cal-El” Robinson, IV, and Delanore Troupe III; two sisters, Ora Betty Robinson-Wilson and Grace A. Robinson (James) Porter. Other surviving in-laws are: Jimmy (Rosa) McWhite, Arthur (Annel) McWhite, Sammy (Katie) McWhite, Doretha Robinson, Linda Robinson, and David F. McWhite. Mr. Robinson also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Mr. Robinson, a lifelong resident of the Mill Branch community in Pamplico, South Carolina, where he built a life filled with love, laughter and community involvement, has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends and many more whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember him for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
