Cameron Haas Guthier, Sr. (Cam), beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the age of 71. Cam was born on September 18, 1952, in Houston, Texas to Roland “Gus” and Estaleen Guthier, the third of five children.  The family moved to Texas City in 1956 where he graduated high school in 1971.   Cam then attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity graduating in 1976.  After graduation, Cam returned to Texas City to manage Gus’ Barbecue, a local restaurant and family business.  Seeking a new path, he then began a career in Procurement spanning over thirty years.   Cam eventually retired from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2016.

In 1978, Cam married the love of his life, Christie Sauer, and together they raised two children, Catherine and Cameron II.  Cam loved youth sports, coaching his children in both soccer and softball, and in 2006, he found his true calling in helping fellow alcoholics and addicts at Memorial Hermann Prevention and Recovery Center (PaRC).

Cam was an active member of St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council and was active in Men’s ACTS Retreats.

His parents and brother, Neal “Bubba” Guthier, preceded him in death.  He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Christie Sauer Guthier; daughter, Catherine Kelley Burger and husband Blake; son, Cameron Guthier II and wife Jessica; two grandsons, Colten and Liam; and three granddaughters, Brennan, Riley, and Caden. He is also survived by siblings, Douglas, Debbie, and Nathan Guthier; as well as countless other family members and friends.
