She was the fourth eldest of nine children and was educated in the Rutherford County school system.
In her early years, Candace dedicated herself to caring for others as both a homemaker and a certified nurse technician. Her compassion and kindness touched many lives. Candace was married to Sandy Earl Pettus for close to two decades and together they had three daughters.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Freddie Smith, and her beloved mother, Annie-Marie Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories her loving children, Dr. Natalyn (Cleveland) Gibbs, Mosheda (Courtney) Pettus, Pi'Airra (Corey) McMahan; siblings, Bonita Smith, Charlie (Norma) Crockett, Elmer Ray (Ora) Crockett, Jerry Crockett, Teresa King, Darryl Crockett, Carolyn Crockett; grandchildren, Harli McMahan, Emma Glen, Evelyn Glen; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and devoted friends.
