Capitola J. Bubp, age 103, of Portland passed away on Monday December 25, 2023 in The Waters of Dunkirk. She was born in Wells County on January 27, 1920 the daughter of Philip and Ella (Alberson) Armantrout. She was married on August 13, 1941 to James E. "Pete" Bubp and he passed away on July 31, 2001. She was retired as an RN for Jay County Hospital and private duty nurse. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, a Bryant High School and Ball Memorial Nursing School graduate. Capi was a dedicated caregiver to many throughout her career in nursing.
Surviving is one daughter Lana Ninde (husband Mike) of Bryant, Six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Pete, son Jeb Bubp and sister Helen Theurer.
Funeral services will be Friday December 29th at 2:00 PM in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Borders presiding. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the choice of the donor. Online condolences at www.bairdfreeman.com

I had the pleasure of being Cappi's neighbor. At that time there were no cell phones and actually something known as a "party" phone line in which several homes shared one line. If you picked up your phone to make a call, there was a possibility that a neighbor was using the line and you could hear their conversation. In Cappi's case, it was a very strong possibility that she was on the phone. We would simply interrupt her conversation and she would end her conversation...until we were finished. Such a sweet lady. I was fortunate to know her.
