Cara Mae Suchman

Cara Mae Suchman, age 88, of Fredericktown, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Country Club Retirement Campus, in Mount Vernon, Ohio. She was born on November 20, 1937, in Fairfield, Illinois, to the late Lycurgus and Alberta (Close) Whitlock.

Cara graduated from Collinsville High School with the Class of 1955. She was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio, Covenant Church in Mount Vernon, Ohio, and most recently, Christ the King Community Church in Fredericktown, Ohio. Cara worked for Cummins Diesel as a typist.

Cara enjoyed reading and collecting books and music records. Most of all she loved being around her loving family.

She is survived by her children, Edward P. (Suzanne) Suchman Jr, Evelyn (Scott) Chalfant; grandchildren, Dan (Mindy) Newkirk, Zach Newkirk, Kaitlyn Sallee and Max Chalfant; great grandchildren, Theo and Korie; a sister, Doris Oliver.

Along with her parents, Cara is preceded in death by her husband, Edward P. Suchman Sr; sisters, Mary Jo Otis, Phyllis Fresen, and Jessie Castegnaro; and a daughter in law, Eva "Renee" Suchman.

Calling hours will be held from 11 AM until the time of funeral service starting at 12:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Christ the King Community Church; 15598 McClelland Road, Fredericktown, Ohio 43019 with Rev. Dr. Lucian Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
