Jesus expressed tears when his friend Lazarus died, he knows how it feels to lose a dead loved one and he understands what you and your family are experiencing. His courage, leadership, faith and pastoral sensitivity will be fondly recalled by many in the Catholic community and the general public, as well as his fellow Knights and brother priests.

His Eminence's lengthy service as an Order Priest, an Archdiocesan Leader, a theology teacher, pastoral shepherd and charitable officer is truly notable in the annals of the Roman Catholic Church in America, particularly at this challenging time of American history. His extensive service and interest in the lives of Chicagoans of many other faiths is also prayerfully noted.

May God Grant CARDINAL GEORGE Eternal Rest with Him, and he will be remembered in our Masses for deceased brother Knights, as well as those specifically offered for him, sponsored by the KNIGHTS of COLUMBUS of Greater Chicagoland.

So sorry for your loss. When my husband and I were at O'Hare airport with our firstborn son when he was a baby around 1999, waiting for a flight to Dallas on American Airlines from Chicago, we ran into him. Actually I kept staring at him and finally said :"hey I know you" or something silly like that. He was very nice and asked about our baby and touched his forehead and gave him a blessing. Then we realized he was waiting to board our same flight. He said he was traveling on to somewhere southwest. He was in first class. I don't like flying but i remember thinking that either he's our lucky charm for a very safe flight - the plane won't go down - or this is a sign we were going to heaven that day. My son is now 16 going on 17. It doesn't seem that long ago but memories like that last a lifetime. Farewell dear sir

You will be truly missed for being the Lord's dedicated servant and shepherd. You provided guidance and leadership to an ailing diocese and inspired the flock to remain steadfast and vigilant. I pray that your efforts are greatly rewarded in Heaven and that you intercede on our behalf.

You were a shepherd, leader, teacher, priest and a genuinely good and humble man.

However, the cancer you battled for so many years, served as an example of how we, as cancer survivors, should see it as a preparation to meet the Lord --since we know not the day we will be called, it behooves us to be ready. Your words, and actions have empowered us to live each day to the fullest, be kind to one another, and be ready for when the time comes. You will always remain in our hearts. Dear Cardinal George, You will be loved and missed. It was a pleasure meeting you and I will cherish the photo we took together during a KOC meeting at the Hilton Hotel in Chicago, years ago. You fought all your life with health conditions but that did not stop to be a priest, bishop and cardinal. Your will, tenacity, unfletching faith, Love of God; enjoy your paradiso with Cardinal Bernadin at your side.

John 11:13 tells us what death is like.

I met the Cardinal @ my priest uncles viewing & he sought me out 2 say I was doing God's work here on earth 4 taking care of my ailing mom. It meant the world 2 me at a rough time. God bless u and safe flight home .

He led the way for those of us continuing to work for the end to abortion in the United States. We loved him as our Cardinal when we lived in Chicago.

Per the Sun Times Chicago newspaper his trip to the Holy See was delayed....and political editor Abdon Pallash wrote an article why OUR TABLE OF LIFE WAS DESTROYED in-partial. ...Let us heed Cardinal Georges example...and we pray that Archbishop Blase Cupich...Our Croatian Brother and Sheppard, defends our lost and guide us all...

You will always live in our hearts and prayers.You are with God now rest in peace.

I'm thankful that Cardinal George was our spiritual guide. He was just what the Archdiocese needed during those seventeen years. God bless him and may he rest in everlasting peace. My heartfelt condolences to his sister and the rest of the family.
