Carl Acord Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 6, 2010.
Carl Acord shared a big Easter dinner with family on Sunday and doted on his infant grandsons, 9-month-old Chase and 3-month-old Cameron, said his sister Sherry Cline.

"He was looking forward to riding them around on the tractor this summer," Cline said. "He kept talking about that at Easter dinner."

Acord also enjoyed fishing with his two sons, 24-year-old Cody and 19-year-old Casey.

Even though he was about 6 feet tall, everyone called Acord "Pee Wee" - which he hated.

"That was his nickname since he was a little tyke. It just stuck," Cline said.

Acord, 52, had worked in mines for 34 years and liked the work, Cline said. But he told his family on Sunday that he was concerned about the mine's roof and worried about going to work Monday.

Carl Acord was one of 29 miners killed April 5, 2010 by a huge explosion in an underground coal mine owned by Massey Energy Co. in West Virginia - the worst U.S. mining disaster since 1970.

may the GOD of comfort be with you PS 83;18

January 25, 2014

Just as no man has power over the spirit or can restrain the spirit, so no one has power over the day of death. Just as no one is discharged during a war, so wickedness will not allow those who practice it to escape. All of this I have seen, and I applied my heart to every work that has been done under the sun, during the time that man has dominated man to his harm. (Ecclesiastes 8:8,9). Carl Acord is missed by family and friends and prayers continue to pour out for this family may you all have peace.

Thank you for sharing Carl's story with us during this sad time. He sounded like a prince of a man, especially to his children. [Luke 6:38] ...Practice giving, and people will give to YOU. They will pour into YOUR laps a fine measure, pressed down, shaken together and overflowing...
You are in my prayers...

My Great Grandmother was Hannah Acord Gunnoe. Somewhere along the line I am proud to say that probably made us cousins. I never had the privilege of meeting you in this life but I hope I do in the next. In the meantime your family is in my thoughts and prayers a lot.
