Obituary published on Legacy.com by Audubon Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Slidell on Jul. 6, 2024.
Carl Norman Babin Jr., a cherished family man, respected Veteran, and beloved member of the Slidell community, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on February 14, 1949, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Carl Norman Babin Sr. and Loope Budinich, Carl's life was one of dedication, service, and joyous engagement with the world around him.
Carl was predeceased by his loving wife, Carol Ann Babin, with whom he shared many years of memories and a beautiful family. He was a devoted father to his three children, including his late daughter, Kristi Babin Johnson (Michael), and sons, Carl N. Babin III (Eugenie) and Brian C. Babin (Jennifer). His role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his grandchildren, Lauren and Brittany Johnson, Cameron, Drew, Blake, Alexis, Nathan, Ella, Jayce, and Zane Babin, as well as, his great-grandchildren Mason, Mackenzie, Bailey, and Blaine.
Carl's brother, Ernest Babin, predeceased him. He is survived by his sister, Deborah Sumlin, who, along with the rest of the family and friends, will remember him for his unwavering support and generous spirit.
Carl's formative years in New Orleans instilled in him a love for the vibrant culture of his hometown. His journey took a turn towards service when he bravely joined the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country as a Navy Seabee during the Vietnam War. His commitment to his nation was a defining aspect of his life, and it was with great pride that he later retired from the National Finance Center, carrying with him the discipline and camaraderie he had learned in the military.
Beyond his family and service, Carl was an active participant in various community organizations. He was a familiar face at the Elks Lodge #2321, Moose Lodge, and Masonic Lodge, where he engaged in fellowship and service. Carl's interests were as diverse as his commitment to community; he was an avid singer at karaoke nights, a regular at the casino, and a passionate fan of horse racing at the Fairgrounds.
As we bid farewell to Carl Norman Babin Jr., we celebrate a life that exemplified strength, love, and commitment. His memory will be treasured in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Carl's presence will be deeply missed, but the impact of his life will continue to resonate within the community and family he so dearly loved.
