Many others also felt honored to call him "uncle," reflecting the deep bonds and connections he maintained throughout his life.
Carl proudly served his country as an Army infantryman. He was fortunate to serve during peace time and spent a tour of duty on the DMZ in Korea in 1960. Eight of his siblings also served in the military. His sons, Richard and Carl, retired from the Air Force and Army.
After his time in the military, Carl was a construction worker until joining the maintenance staff at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. He worked there almost continually for two weeks following the Blizzard of '78. He retired as the maintenance manager after nearly 30 years in 1999.
Carl was a dedicated parishioner at Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church, actively volunteering in various capacities, including leadership roles in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He proudly ensured that four of his children attended Bishop Feehan High School, and Carl consistently participated in church services on Sundays and religious Holy Days. Prior to his passing, he received the sacrament of last rites.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, betting on the "ponies", and playing bingo with his long-time companion Ilene. He spent many hours coaching at Lee's Pond and helping to clean the pond each year. He was a major contributor to the Veterans Memorial Pavilion project at the South Attleboro Veterans Memorial Park (Lee's Pond).
