Carl Edward “Eddie” Cottle, 70, of Fayetteville, WV, went to Heaven on Sunday, November 23, 2025, after a long illness.
Carl was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, whose warmth, kindness, and unwavering support touched the lives of all who knew him.
Born on September 4, 1955, in Lima, Ohio, Carl was the son of Betty Jane (Smith) Cottle and Carl Eugene Cottle.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Judy Darlene (Adkins) Cottle; son Jason Ryan Cottle; paternal grandparents: Audrey Amy (Price) and Mose Taplin Cottle; maternal grandparents: James Oscar Smith and Rachel Jane Smith (Raymond) Skaggs; mother and father-in-law: Laura Maxine (McClure) and Everett Ray Adkins; sisters- in-law Regina: Mitchell and Tammy Conley; brothers-in-law: Larry Adkins and Rev. Michael Adkins; and nephew Steven Eugene Warden.
Carl grew up with a passion for hunting, fishing, camping, and motorcycles. He was a surveyor by trade. Throughout his life, he was known for his selflessness; his commitment to working hard to provide for his family; his very dry sense of humor; his ability to pull a meal together with whatever random ingredients he put his hands on first; popping huge bowls of popcorn to munch on while he watched tv with his grandkids; taking his kids and grandkids to target shoot in the field behind his house; for eating whatever did not eat him first; and his love for his family He was a source of inspiration and guidance for many.
Those left to cherish his memory are his parents Betty Jane (Smith) and Carl Eugene Cottle of Fayetteville; two daughters: Misty Maxine (McGee) Mehta of Shady Spring and Laura Shannon Marlene Cottle (Khristopher) Thompson of Fayetteville; one grandson: Austin Edward McGee of Cincinnati, OH; three granddaughters: Lila Darlene Mehta (Jared) Riffe and Sanjaya “Sunny” Maxine Mehta, both of Shady Spring; and Alexis Marie Cottle of Fayetteville; two sisters: Deborah (Cottle) Warden and Carla (Cottle) Meredith, both of Fayetteville; two brothers-in-law: Rev. Bobby (Jennifer) Adkins and Roger (LouVerna) Adkins, both of Lorado; three sisters-in-law: Donna (Adkins) Bowen of Morganton, NC; Gwendolyn Adkins of Lenoir, NC; and Trudy (Meredith) Trent of Beckley; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will deeply miss him. His memory will remain forever in our hearts.
In keeping with Carl’s wishes, he will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Virginia Street Baptist Church, 301 Summerlee Ave., Oak Hill, WV 25901 with Rev. Bobby Adkins officiating.
