Carl William Easter, age 94, of Cana, Virginia, passed away at his home on Saturday morning Aug. 12, 2023. He was born in Carroll County, Virginia, on May 9, 1929, to the late Jerry Elmer Easter and Mattie Elizabeth McKinney Easter. Mr. Easter was a devout Christian and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Easter was retired from Radford Arsenal, was an orchardist, and loved sawmilling — a man of many talents. Carl was also a proud and long-term member of Granite Masonic Lodge #322 A.F and A.M of Mount Airy and an honorary member of Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 A.F and A.M of Mount Airy. He loved talking to people and going to the junkyard. Left to cherish his memory are his four daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Busick Hiatt, Georgia and Garry McMillian, Patsy Barr, and Nancy and Lonnie Utt; eight grandchildren, Denise and Mike Westendorf, Brian and Holly Busick, Steven and Candice McMillian, Jason and Lesley McMillian, Vanessa and Jonathan Smith, Kimberly and Matt Kern, Matthew Utt, and Joshua and Deanna Utt; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; five step great-grandchildren; one nephew, Billy and Joy Bobbitt of Cana; and a special friend, Sonny Greer. In addition to his parents, Mr. Easter was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Betty Parks Easter; one great-granddaughter, McKenzie Busick; sister and brother-in-law, Tavie Easter Bobbitt and Ernest; and two sons-in-law, Jimmy Hiatt and Billy Barr. Funeral services for Mr. Easter will be held on Wednesday Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy McCraw and Rev. Dennis Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in the Easter-Rippey Family Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Granite Lodge #322 A.F & A.M. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday night Aug. 15, from 6- 8 p.m.. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to New Bethel Baptist Church, 2826 Pipers Gap Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to the donor's choice.
