Carl Gothmann Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Newbaker Funeral Home - Blairstown on Dec. 3, 2025.
Carl R. Gothmann, 84, of Hardyston, Twp, passed away on November 27, 2025. Born on December 13, 1941, in Passaic, NJ, Carl lived a life filled with service, dedication, and passion. A devoted husband, father, and friend, Carl's memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Carl served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1967, a chapter of his life that left an indelible mark on his character. After his military service, Carl pursued a career in sports video engineering, working for ABC Sports in Lodi, NJ, where he made significant contributions to the coverage of countless sports events, including his work on golf broadcasts. His technical skill and dedication to his craft were respected by colleagues and peers alike.
Carl's love of golf was legendary. He played avidly throughout his life, achieving an impressive seven hole-in-ones and maintaining a six handicap. His passion for the game led him to travel all over the United States, where he often had the privilege of playing with professional golfers during practice rounds. Up until just weeks before his passing, Carl could be found on the course, playing three times a week and always looking forward to the next round with his friends.
In addition to his professional and sporting accomplishments, Carl was deeply committed to his faith and his wife. He was a member of the Pocono Reformed Bible Church in Stroudsburg, PA, where he found strength and community. Carl was married to Linda McQuaig Gothmann for 29 years.
Carl was predeceased by his brother. He is survived by his beloved wife Linda, and his two adult children, and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A church service will be held on Saturday, December 6th, 2025 beginning at 1:00PM at Grace Reformed Bible Church 23 Thompson Street, Newton, NJ 07860.
