CARL L. GROSS, 81, of Evansville, Illinois, passed away at 12:44 pm, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Coulterville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Coulterville, Illinois.
He was born to the late Paul H. and Margaret (nee Roy) Gross on January 5, 1944, in Red Bud, Illinois.
Carl married Cheryl Pautler on July 18, 1998, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Evansville, Illinois; she survives.
He had been involved in the banking business for 45 years. He started working for First National Bank, which later became First Bank in Red Bud, Illinois. He served as President of the branch and a loan officer.
Carl was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus #1952, and American Legion Post #1172, all in Evansville, Illinois. He was one of the founding members of the St. Clement’s Community Foundation and served as Treasurer. He was also a member of the Randolph County Farm Bureau and the High Roller Investment Club, serving as Treasurer.
Carl enjoyed visiting casinos in Las Vegas and on the Gulf Coast. He loved playing cards and had been playing for over 40 years with his card club. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and St. Louis Battlehawk fan. He enjoyed working outside on his lawn and on the farm. Carl had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger.
Carl served in the Army Reserve for 6 years.
