Carl Dean “Deanie” Henderson passed away on March 26, 2026 in Plainview, Texas, at the age of 91. He was born in Silverton, Texas, on February 20, 1935, to Bailey Powell and Clara Emma Vaughan Henderson. He graduated from Lockney High School in 1952 and married Nita Earlene Kellison on June 26, 1953.

Deanie and Nita made their home in southern Briscoe County, where they farmed cotton, milo, and wheat and raised cattle and horses. Deanie served as a director of the Aberdeen Angus Association and was an officer of the West Texas Hereford Association. He also served as an officer of the Lockney Young Farmers Chapter and was a Star Young Farmer award recipient. The family spent many years traveling across the country showing Quarter Horses — something Deanie took great pride in. The family made many memories together on their trips to horse shows and sales. Deanie was baptized at the Lone Star Baptist Church on the same day as his oldest daughter, Ginger, which was a memory that remained special to him. A longtime 4-H leader, he poured his heart into helping all kids learn and grow. He was recognized for his contributions to the Floyd County 4-H program and was awarded the Silver Spur Adult Leader Award. Deanie was also a member of the Lockney and Floyd County Stock Show Boards for many years. In addition to the farm and horses, Deanie sold chemicals for several years and was an accomplished insurance salesman. Once their daughters were grown and married, Deanie and Nita moved to Plainview. He then found his true calling — trading saddles, spurs, bits, and other western memorabilia. He loved traveling across the country to trade shows for buying, selling, and trading, but mostly visiting with folks everywhere he went. His larger-than-life personality made his booth a popular stop on the trade show circuit. He was inducted into the National Bit, Spur, and Saddle Collectors Association Hall of Fame in May of 2018.

Deanie is survived by his daughters, Ginger Mathis and husband Mike of Plainview, and Mona Gardenhire and husband Mark of Albany, Texas. He leaves behind six grandchildren and their families: Kaci and Kodi Scott of New Home, and their children Laney and Mason; Lindsey and Jeff Griffith of Canyon, and their children Caden and wife Chesney, Carley, and Caragen; Garrett and Lindsie Mathis of Plainview, and their children Evelyn, Brody, Collin, and Kylie; Whitney and Caleb Henson of Ropesville, and their children Blakely and Hampton; Austin and Jordan Gardenhire of New Home, and their children Cameron and Carter; and Travis and Allison Gardenhire of Temple, and their children Chisum, Dixie, and Tatum. He is also survived by his sister, LaJuan McCormick of Paris, Texas, and his brother in law, Ricky Kellison of Lockney, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nita; brother C.L. Henderson; sister Oneta Rodgers, and two great grandchildren, Kaylee Scott and Baby Mathis.
