Carl Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 27, 2026.
Carl Robert Johnson, 66, passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, integrity, and quiet strength. Born on July 23, 1959, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert Key and Edna Dean Johnson. He was the youngest child in a family of four children, joining Byron, Pam, and Michael. Graduating Park Hill High in 1977 before relocating to Columbia and making the home of the Mizzou Tigers his forever home.

Carl was a proud graduate of the University of Missouri, where he built not only his education but lifelong friendships and a deep sense of purpose. He dedicated many years of faithful service to the University of Missouri Hospital Systems and later to MBS Textbooks in the field of Network Engineering, earning the respect of colleagues and friends through his steady work ethic, humility, and unwavering reliability.

A man of honor and tradition, Carl was one of seven Eagle Scouts in the Johnson family lineage, a distinction he wore not as a badge of pride, but as a lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and moral courage. The principles of Scouting shaped the way he lived: with kindness, preparedness, and a heart always ready to help others.

Above all, Carl was a devoted family man. Carl was previously married to Anne Johnson, and from that union came their two beloved children, Kelly Anne and Gregory Robert. In 2016, he married Glenna Johnson and together they built a marriage grounded in companionship, laughter, and steadfast devotion that lasted until his very last breath. Their time together was filled with shared joy, quiet moments, and the comfort of knowing they had found true partnership.

Carl's greatest pride was his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife, Glenna of Columbia, Missouri; his daughter, Kelly (Josh) Brenner of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; and his son, Greg (Deidra) Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas; his former wife and lifelong friend, Anne Johnson of Lee's Summit, Missouri along with countless family and friends. He was a proud and adoring grandfather to four beautiful grandchildren who brought immeasurable light into his life. Whether attending their activities, sharing stories, or simply sitting close by, "Grandpa" found his deepest happiness in their presence.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Dean Johnson, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became.

Carl will be remembered for his spirit, steady wisdom, jovial laugh, and the deep, abiding love he had for his entire family. His life was not measured by grand gestures, but by consistent acts of faithfulness, kindness, and devotion. The legacy he leaves behind lives on in the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the family he cherished beyond measure.

He will be profoundly missed and forever loved.
