Carl Loehr Obituary

Carl David Loehr of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, died September 8, 2025 after enduring a long battle on kidney dialysis.
Carl was a 1976 graduate of Pittsfield High School and loved sports. He played on a softball team at the complex, was in a bowling league for many years and spent many hours at the YMCA gym socializing and lifting weights where he got the nickname "Big Daddy". He was a loyal Denver Bronco fan. He loved watching Sunday Football on several tv's so he could see multiple games at the same time, and he would talk football with anyone that could or would. He loved music and would sometimes just take a drive in his car and blast the music.
He was a school bus driver at Dufour for several years, and all the kids loved him. He was affectionately known to all as "Uncle Carl". Although Carl never had any kids of his own, he loved kids and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with all his nieces and nephews, and would gladly attend any of the great nieces and nephews sporting events when possible, right up to the end.
Carl was always willing to sit at the kids table because he was just a big kid himself. The kids didn't mind, because they loved him the same as he loved them. Carl was also an instigator; he would tell the kids to go do something and then watch them get reprimanded for doing it. Then he'd sit and laugh at the whole situation. Of course, none of the pranks were dangerous. If we had to pick one word to describe Carl, sister, Terri says "Joyful" because he was always happy to greet his family and friends with a joyful "Hey. How ya doing?", even at the end when he was confined to the nursing home. So, we siblings would like everyone to remember Carl this way. He loved life and will forever be in our hearts this way.
He will mostly be remembered as everyone's favorite bartender starting at the Hilton downstairs at the Branding Iron, Fox Hollow, Silver Screen and Tahiti Takeout to name a few. He passed his bartending skills down to his nephew Jared Vella at his last stint of employment at V's Dog House, which is now The Brookhouse Sports Pub & Restaurant and Jared manages there.
Carl was predeceased by his father, Andrew Gotthard Loehr, Sr., and mother, Marion Teresa Sokolowski; sister, Marcia C. Nocher and her husband Rod and brother, Brian D. Loehr.
He leaves behind his brothers, Andrew G. Loehr, Jr., Mark J. Loehr (Diane), Timothy J. Loehr and Todd B. Loehr (Lisa); his sisters, Teresa A. Landau (Guy), Brenda S. Vella (Ed) and Kathryn M. (Kitty) Barbarotta (Vincent); as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He will be missed dearly.
Calling hours will be held, Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield. A funeral home service will follow at 6pm.
