Carl Lyles Jr., 80, of Evansville, Indiana, transitioned peacefully to his heavenly home Saturday, March 28, 2026. He was born in Princeton, Indiana November 11, 1945 to the late Mary Lyles and Carl Lyles Sr.

Carl Jr. attended Lincoln High School and graduated from Central High School. After high school, he graduated from the University of Southern Indiana where he earned his degree in Criminal Justice. Carl Jr. was a military Veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star and was a member of the 25th Infantry Division for the U.S. Army. Carl Jr. began his career at Whirlpool before becoming a reserve deputy sheriff. Later, after over 28 years of employment, he retired from Bristol Myers Squibb. In his retirement, Carl Jr. worked part-time at the Evansville Museum. He was a member of Alexander A.M.E. Church for many years and served on various committees, working diligently in his church.

Carl Jr. enjoyed many things in life, including being a lifetime member of the American Legion, farming, collecting antiques, and spending time with family and friends.

Carl Jr. was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lyles; his father, Carl Lyles Sr.; and his brother, Ronald Lyles.

Carl Jr. is survived by his loving wife, Edith Lyles; son, Carl Lyles III (Jennifer Lyles); daughter, Chera Jones (Chris Jones); grandsons, Christopher Jones and Julian Jones; brother, Harry Lyles; and his nieces and nephews, Cherhonda Greenlee (Marreo Greenlee), Mary Lyles, Harry Lyles Jr., and Joshua Lyles. Carl Jr. leaves behind a host of cousins, great-nieces, great- nephews and friends who he cherished and enjoyed spending time with.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 3, 2026 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Alexander A.M.E. Church, 840 E. Walnut St., Evansville. A Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Tannika Patton officiating.

Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alexander A.M.E. Church, 840 E. Walnut St., Evansville, IN 47713.

The family expresses their thanks to the staff of Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center for their kind and compassionate care of Carl Jr.
