Carl Nagy passed quietly from this life into eternal life on Sunday, February 9, 2025, with his wife, Beth, and two dogs at his bedside.
Carl was the oldest son of Winifred Parsons Nagy Lewis and Arnold Nagy, born December 14, 1943, in San Bernardino, CA. Carl, his four siblings, and parents resided In Mentone, CA during his elementary and high school years. He spent some summers at his grandparents' ranch in Southern Colorado rounding up cattle and learning about ranch life. He graduated from Redlands High School and received a full scholarship to college from the U.S. Navy. He began his college education at the University of Idaho, Moscow, ID, and was commissioned as a Midshipman in the U.S. Navy ROTC program, transferring after his sophomore year to UCLA where he majored in mathematics. Upon graduation from UCLA he was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy.
As a naval officer he first served on a refrigerated stores ship carrying supplies from Norfolk, VA, to the 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea. He attained the rank of Lieutenant JG and served as the Damage Control Officer. He was later transferred to the West Coast and served on a ship off Vietnam and Southeast Asia. After returning to the States he served as Summary Court-Martials Officer as he completed his service.
After leaving the Navy, Carl decided to come to Colorado, first working as a campaign coordinator for a cousin who was running for political office in Southern Colorado. He then ski-bummed for the winter, working at a mountain resort. After coming to the Denver area he tried out several occupations before attending the Brinker School of Surveying and Mapping. He became a licensed land surveyor and went to work as a cadastral land surveyor for the Bureau of Land Management. He found his calling – working in the mountains, being outdoors for much of the year. In his spare time, he enjoyed hiking, fishing, and skiing.
After his retirement, Carl was diagnosed with MS. He continued to enjoy car camping and fishing for several years.
Carl met Beth when she moved into the townhouse unit next door. They were married on July 12. 2007.
Carl is survived by his wife Beth, two stepsons, Wayne Oblander of Winfield, KS, and Michael Oblander of Lakewood, CO. He is also survived by his two sisters Bonnie Nagy Campbell and Shirley Nagy Spurgin, and two brothers Stephen Nagy and Jim Nagy, all
residing in California, as well as several cousins and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and a few of his cousins.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Peace Lutheran Church (Arvada, CO) or to charity of your choice.
