Carl J. Rosso

Carl Rosso, age 80, of Lorain passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home. Carl was born on July 5, 1932 in Lorain, Ohio to Joseph and Lena (nee Temerario) Rosso. He was a graduate of Lorain High School. He enlisted with the United States Navy on May 2, 1951 and served his country for a period during the Korean War. While enlisted he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on April 6, 1955. He was employed by Columbia Gas, retiring in 1998 at the age of 65. He was a lifelong member of the Church of St. Peter, Lorain. Carl enjoyed roller skating and gambling. He had a passion for genealogy, discovering and preserving his family's history. A talented craftsman he enjoyed woodworking, creating numerous furniture pieces. Carl was a wonderful and giving man, always there to help out his family and friends. Carl is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pauline (nee Cote) sons, Donald (Marilyn) Rosso, of Amherst and Joseph (Angela) Rosso, of Avon; daughters, Gloria (Steve) Maxwell, of Lorain and Denise (David Adams) Rosso, of Oberlin; grandchildren, Jerry Harkless, Rachel Merry, Carl (Kara) Rosso, Pamela Merry and Joshua Rosso; great-granddaughter, Caylee Ann Harkless. He was preceded in death by his parents,Joseph and Lena; and siblings, Samuel Rosso, Joanne Zelnik, Tony Rosso, Carl Rosso (at age 4) and Lillian Romanski. The Rosso family will receive friends on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A memorial service will follow the visitation in the funeral center at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor of the Church of St. Peter, will officiate. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post #451. Private family inurment will take place at a later date.
