Carl Garth Rowland

Carl Garth Rowland born October 5, 1933 to the late Carl B. and Imogene (Smith) Rowland in Casper, Wyoming. On June 29, 1957 he married Shirley Ann Yesh in Bronson, Michigan. He moved to Michigan as an infant and grew up in the Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Hamburg communities. Carl graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1953 and Western Michigan University in 1958. He taught Vocational Machine Shop in Marysville, Michigan and then the Lansing Public School System at Sexton, Eastern, and Harry Hill before retiring in 1990. Carl placed many of his students in the area tool shops from his program. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Grand Ledge. His hobbies included working in his own machine shop, hunting, fishing, reading, building and flying model airplanes, traveling and especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren.
He leaves his wife, Shirley; daughters, Colleen Rowland of Lansing, Georgia Sumkowski of Jackson; sons, Clair (Kellie) Rowland of Byron Center, Keith (Lisa) Rowland of Charlotte, and Gordon Rowland of Delton; grandchildren, Kyle, Cameron, Tyler, Cody, Garrett, Skyler, Samantha, Stacie, and Grace; great-grandchildren, Aydin, Maysn, Trynity, John, Bo, Leah, and Lauren; sisters, Judy Cain and Cheri (Terry) Rice, and brother-in-law Mark LaChance. Carl was preceded in death by sisters, Patricia Truhn, Laurie LaChance, and Virginia Valentine; brother, Larry Rowland, sister-in-law, Carol Rowland, son-in-law, Steve Sumkowski; brothers-in-law, Gerald Truhn, Jim Cain, and Bob Valentine.
