To Val and the Family, my deepest sympathy on the passing of your wonderful husband and father, Carl. He was a very friendly neighbor who welcomed my family into the neighborhood more than 20 years old. My prayers are with you all and may God comfort you in this time of loss.

My Uncle Carl was the closest I came to having a Father, after my Father passed away when I was just 7 years old. I loved him for taking me to my PAL basketball games, for being a presence in my young life and, maybe most of all, for how well he looked after my Mother. I have been praying for his good health every Sunday for probably the last 5 years. I thank God for giving him those 5 years and for welcoming him yesterday. I'm sure he is enjoying a couple of Ballantines or Budweisers with his brothers and sisters right about now!

When I think of Uncle Carl, I see a towering figure, imposing in size, but warm and gentle in heart, singing "Sto lat" at Babci's birthday parties. That is how I will always remember him.
