Carl Robert von Bastian, of Silex, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the age of 76. Cherished son of the late Virginia and Carl von Bastian; devoted father of Eric (Thez) von Bastian; loving grandfather of Micah von Bastian; dear brother of the late Carol von Bastian. Carl was an honest, hardworking, and intelligent man with a deep love for travel. He traveled the world as a field service technician repairing lasers as well as for pleasure, yet he especially liked the Mojave Desert, the backdrop for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and the cradle of Death Valley, it was a favorite of destinations. Carl was a passionate reader and had many interests, he really wasn’t afraid to tackle anything. He was an aficionado of the music of the soul, Tom Waits, Dave Van Ronk, Bob Dylan, and of course his cousin Don Harriss to name a few. Above all, Carl cherished his granddaughter, spending as much time with her as possible and creating lasting memories together. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Memorials may be made in Carl's name to The Salvation Army.
