Carl James Zinge, 85, passed away on July 31, 2025, in Englewood, Colorado. Born on May 10, 1940, in Denver, Colorado, Carl lived a life marked by service, strength of character, and a voice that could fill both churches and canyons.

Carl's early years in Denver laid the foundation for a life of learning and compassion. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Metro State College, followed by a Master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Later, he pursued a Ministry certificate from the Iliff School of Theology-an embodiment of his deep commitment to both intellectual and spiritual growth.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Carl served for two years in Greenland and other locations around the world. His military service was one chapter in a life defined by dedication to others.

For over two decades, Carl served as the head of the adult residential unit at Fort Logan Mental Health Center. His work there was not just a job-it was a calling. He poured his heart into caring for mental health patients with unwavering compassion and creativity. Whether taking them fishing in the mountains or riding roller coasters at Elitch Gardens, Carl brought joy and dignity to those often overlooked by society. On Christmas Eve, he would stay overnight with his patients to ensure they felt cared for during the holidays-a testament to his profound empathy and sense of duty.

Carl's booming laugh and resonant singing voice were unforgettable. He sang with passion in church choirs and let his voice echo across lakes and valleys during hikes or fishing trips. A lifelong Democrat with an avid interest in politics, he also loved reading about World War II and the Civil War. In his younger years, he enjoyed hiking Colorado's rugged trails; throughout his life, he found solace in fishing and camaraderie in Toastmasters.

He was joyful yet obstinate-never one to do something unless it aligned with his own convictions. His personality was as complex as it was magnetic: bombastic and playful one moment, deeply reflective the next. Carl had an iron constitution that carried him through life's challenges with resilience.

Carl is survived by his daughter Kelley Carlynne Zinge; granddaughter Eleanor Violet Lewis; sister Andrea Sue McCall (Gary McCall); cousin Georgia Kelley; and lifelong friend Roger Smith. He was preceded in death by his mother Violet Kuchak; father Andrew Kuchak; father Carl Joseph Zinge; brother Jeff Kuchak; and brother Patrick Zinge.

The quiet left behind by Carl's passing is louder than even his mighty voice-a silence that speaks volumes about the man he was and the space he held in all our lives.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
