It is with deep love we mourn the loss of Carla Ann Claudili, 49, who passed away peacefully, on the afternoon of March 20 at The Samaritan Hospice Center at Mt. Holly with her loving family by her side after a valiant 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Carla was born on April 6, 1972 and was raised in Trenton, NJ. She graduated from Notre Dame High School Class of 1990 and went on to graduate from Salisbury University in Maryland with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. In 1997, together with her cousin Andrea Ytkin, she opened Kids R First Preschool in Trenton, NJ. Over the course of 25 years, the preschool grew to three locations and serves over 300 children in partnership with the Trenton Public School District. Carla spent every day ensuring that the children of the schools were loved and cared for and that her staff was treated like family. She believed that the children she educated deserved the very best and really loved her job. Above all, Carla was an amazing mother, wife, daughter, friend and boss.
Carla was predeceased by her grandmother Carmela Tallone Tafs and grandfather Dominick Claudili. She is survived by her loving husband Juan Colon; her beautiful daughter Dominica Colon; her step-son Darius Colon and step-daughter Julissa Colon; her adoring mother and father, Carol and Donald Claudili; her loving sister and brother-in-law, Gina and Matt Skilton, her niece and nephew, Leah and Reece Skilton, her grandmother Jean Claudili; her adoring aunt, Arlene Ytkin; her mother-in-law, Iris Lugo; several aunts, uncles and cousins, including her two loving cousins she worked with passionately everyday at Kids R First Preschool, Andrea Ytkin and Karen Marie Frascella. She also leaves behind many loving and caring friends, including Nicole Maffei Staltmayer, who provided care and support above and beyond during her illness. She also leaves behind her cherished preschool staff members, many of whom have worked for her for many years, who she loved and cherished like family. She also leaves behind the many children she nurtured and provided early learning.
