Carla Fruhling

November 15, 1944 - September 15, 2025

Carla Ann Fruhling, longtime resident of Kearney, Neb., passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, at the age of 80. Funeral services will be on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Kearney. Rev. Dr. Michelle Carlson will officiate and burial will be at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney. Memorials are suggested to The ARC of Buffalo County or the Kearney Area Animal Shelter, care of the family. Please visit www.hlmkfuneral.com to leave a message or condolence. She was born in Bayonne, N.J. on November 15, 1944, to Carl A. Buettner and Helen Gusko. Her family moved to the Elm Creek area when she was a child. Carla attended and graduated from Elm Creek Highschool. She later married Leland Fruhling on June 25, 1967 in Kearney. Carla worked a variety of jobs throughout her life including Baldwins and Walmart. She also managed several greenhouses in the summertime for many years. Carla was a dedicated member of her community and will be remembered for her involvement in several local organizations. An active member of First Lutheran Church in Kearney, Carla's faith was an important part of her life. She was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, volunteered as Boy Scout Leader, enjoyed golfing, reading and cross stitch. She also enjoyed camping and boating with her family and friends. A passionate bowler, Carla was a familiar face and a longtime member of the Kearney Women's Bowling Association, where she fostered many friendships over the years.

She is survived by her son, Jeff Fruhling of Kearney; daughter, Janette Sue Fruhling of Elm Creek, Neb.; 4 grandchildren, Dylan, Collin, Jaiden and Julissa; 3 great-grandchildren, Kendrick, Anelise, Bastian.

Carla was preceded in death by her husband, Leland; parents, Carl and Helen Buettner; her sister, Alicia Keller; nephews, David and TJ Buettner.
