Carla Marie Harkness Moses, 51, of
Athens, Pa., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 30th at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital. Born on March 29, 1974, in
Troy, Pa., she was the daughter of Revena "Sharon" and Richard "Frosty" Harkness. Carla attended Troy Area High School and proudly graduated with the Class of 1992. She spent 20 dedicated years with Welles Mills Oil Co., where Leanne and Chris Welles became more like family than coworkers. Carla was a member of the First Baptist Church in
Troy, Pa., where she was baptized, a place that remained meaningful to her throughout her life.
Carla had a presence that filled a room before she ever spoke, her laughter always arrived first. Wherever she went, joy followed. Her sense of humor, often a little dark and always perfectly timed, could leave a room in tears of laughter within minutes. She loved her husband, her family, and the friends who became family just as deeply as they loved her. Carla embraced life with her whole heart, finding happiness in good company, good music, especially anything by Usher, and any moment that brought people together.
She adored her nieces and nephews with her whole heart, earning her place as the unforgettable "fun aunt." Her sisters often shook their heads and laughed at the inappropriate songs and phrases she taught their kids, memories that will be retold for years to come. She was also a talented baker, known for treats that were made with the same warmth and generosity she poured into every relationship.
Family to Carla was never limited by blood. Every child who knew her gained a lifelong source of music recommendations, silly dance routines, and mischievous fun. Her adventurous spirit, love of game nights, and willingness to say "yes" to just about anything will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Carla is survived by her husband, Ken Moses; her parents, Richard "Frosty" and Revena "Sharon" Harkness of Troy; and her three sisters: Carol (Chris) Garvin of Troy, Shareen (Mike) Crane of Troy, and Amy (Phillip) Nelson of Waverly. She leaves behind nieces and nephews by both blood and love: Chelsie Johnston (Garth Mahosky) of Philadelphia, Taylor Johnston, Landon Carr, and Weston Curry of Leraysville, Breana Garvin of Falls Church, VA, Sierra and Eli Crane of Troy, and Roger and Samantha Webster of Waverly. She also leaves her beloved dog, Ginger; her "Angels on Earth," Leanne and Chris Welles of Sayre; and dear friends who became family, including Rose Hall of Troy, Janelle Hall of Troy, Sue and Larry Johnston of Leroy, along with her health care family at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, especially the dialysis center, caregivers, and transfer/greeter staff.
She is predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Gerald "Frosty" and Betty Harkness; her maternal grandparents, Elwood and Ellen Jacobs; and her aunts and uncles: Doris (Harrison) Printup, Ellwood Jacobs, Maricel (Evert) Hewitt, Elva (Gene) Green, Marlene (Erwin) Printup, Virginia Duck, and Marilyn Quicklyn.
