It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Carla Denise Nixon, aged 68, who departed this life on November 4, 2025, in while residing in Marietta, Georgia.
Carla was born on September 11, 1957, in Tifton, Georgia, to Milton Aaron Sr. and Eloise Aaron. She grew up surrounded by her siblings, Susan Gupton her older sister and Milton Aaron Jr. her younger brother. From an early age, Carla's whole family enjoyed playing games. The highlight of childhood was spending time at her grandparent's house down the road. Carla and Susan spent a great deal of time at their grandparent's house playing cards, berry picking and fishing. Every time she saw chicken and dumplings it reminded her of her grandmother's cooking. Smelling honeysuckle would remind her of her grandparent's house due to all the honeysuckle vines growing there,
After completing her Bachelor's Degree in education, Carla taught at the elementary level for 7 years. She returned to school to earn her Master's Degree in Education now focused on special education. She dedicated 25 years to teaching in both Georgia and Texas, shaping young minds and enabling those with disabilities to maximize their ability to navigate their education and their lives. Later in her career she once again returned to school to become a certified education diagnostician and was employed as a mentor to other special education teachers. Her career in education was not just a profession but a calling-one she embraced wholeheartedly and she continued to advocate for others with special needs or in foster care.
Carla married Mark Nixon, with whom she shared 21 wonderful years of love and companionship. Together, they raised a beautiful family. Carla was a devoted mother to her four sons-David Silverberg, Jonathan Silverberg, Michael Nixon, and Robert Nixon-and a proud grandmother to her beloved granddaughter, Kaylie Nixon, who brought immense joy to her life.
Outside the classroom and home, Carla found happiness in her many passions. She was known for her exemplary cooking skills, while managing to ensure each meal was especially heathy. Her love of cooking extended beyond her family-she often volunteered her time to prepare meals for foster families, sharing her kindness and generosity with those in need. Carla also loved square dancing, a hobby that brought her a great deal of laughter, connection, and joy.
Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Milton Aaron Sr. and Eloise Aaron, her brother Anthony Aaron and step son Jerod Nixon.. She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Nixon; sons, David Silverberg, Jonathan Silverberg, Michael Nixon, and Robert Nixon and his wife Michelle; granddaughter, Kaylie Nixon; sister, Susan Gupton; brother, Milton Aaron Jr.; and nieces, Paige Chopra and Brianna Aaron-all of whom will miss her dearly.
Funeral services for Carla will be held on November 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Peachtree Corners Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park. The family will gather on Friday, November 14, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate Carla's life and legacy, reflecting on the joy she brought to all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to local organizations supporting special needs and foster children, honoring Carla's lifelong passion for helping those in need.
Carla Denise Nixon will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her kindness, love, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
