Carleen Riemen Laurentz has died after a long and active life.
She is predeceased by her parents, Carl William and Lillian Ross Riemen; sister, Billie Riemen Lovell and her husband of 64 years, Ray Donald Laurentz.
Carleen is survived by her children, David and wife Merrill Laurentz and Catherine and husband Clayton Hurst; grandchildren, Matthew and wife Jennifer Laurentz, Joseph Hurst, Sidney and husband Greg Hatfield and Susan and husband Ed Thraen; great-grandchildren, Sylvia Laurentz, Saylor Hatfield, and Carson and Aubrey Thraen.
Carleen is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, Class of 1946. She is an alumna of the University of Houston, Class of 1950. She was an elementary teacher in HISD for thirty years and a volunteer tutor and story reader in public schools and libraries for twenty years. Carleen was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Assn., the Houston Area Retired Teachers, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and Daughters of the American Revolution.
The family would like to thank the following who helped her to transition the way she wanted, comfortable and in her long home. First names only, you know who you are; Barbara, Sulma, Agnes, Amy, Gloria, Dorothy, Maxine, Kafilat, LaTasha, Elizabeth, Theresa, Ashanti, Bhaneil.
Memorials will be gratefully accepted by the Scholarship Committee of HART, P.O. Box 6727 Houston, TX 77265-2767.
