Carleton Nealy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Welch Funeral Home - Marks Chapel on Jan. 2, 2026.
Carleton Lance Nealy, 77, of Heathsville passed away on December 31, 2025 at home. Known as Lance to friends and family, he was born to the late Woodrow Lansing Nealy and the late Jeanette Scott Nealy. He had a long career with the United States Postal Service. Beginning as a mail carrier and retiring as a supervisor, Lance was the epitome of the postal creed: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." Lance was also a proud veteran of the United States Army who served his country during the Vietnam War.

Lance was a devoted father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend whose life was marked by hard work, generosity, and care for others.

He is survived by his son, Carleton Trevor Nealy; Trevor's sisters, Kimberly and Rebecca Bickford, whom Carleton loved as his own; his two beloved granddaughters; his cousins: Ann Scott Coakley "Cousin Pinky", Sue Scott Nisenfeld, Harriet Sharpe and Gibby Chase; and his best friend, Larry Newman.

Carleton had a deep love for building things and for helping his family whenever and wherever he could. He consistently tried to go above and beyond, both professionally and at home. He loved being on the water and enjoyed boating on the Potomac River.

He will be remembered for his strength, dependability, and quiet kindness, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in Lance's loving memory to a charity of your choice, or that you perform a random kind act to honor his loving nature.
