Carlos 'Ricar' Ricardo Alfaro Campos, 43, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 12, with his family by his side. Carlos is survived by his wife, Sarah Jo; daughter, Emilia Rose; mother, Maria Trinidad Campos Ortega; siblings, Arturo (Andrea) Alfaro and Adriana (Tadd) Walker; and nieces and nephews, Gabriella, Liliana and Francesca Alfaro, and Benjamin and Nicholas Walker. Carlos also leaves behind his maternal grandmother, Carmen Campos, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins in Mexico, Canada, and the United States. He was preceded in death by his father, Francisco Pedro Alfaro Sanchez.
Carlos was born in Cuautitlan Izcalli, Mexico, on December 3,1980, where he grew as a quiet, but observant young boy who connected with people and sought to explore the world. In 1993, Carlos moved to Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, where he became a swimming, track, and football athlete at Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute. When away from the field, Carlos faithfully served in his local church, where he learned to play piano under Pastor Mark Gascho. In 1998, Carlos moved to the United States, and he resided with his family in Clarkston, graduating from Clarkston High School in 1999. Carlos received his Associate Degree in multimedia management from Baker College in 2004.
As a faithful believer, Carlos remained actively involved in many aspects of ministry throughout the years, including TV and video production, performing arts, school of music, and website development. He loved to praise the Lord and played piano and keyboard during Sunday evening services at Mt Zion Church. Carlos also served as Technical Director, and a multitude of other roles over the years, reaching and touching many lives across generations. Besides working with the youth, young adults, and performing artists at both 5529 and The District, he was the 'unofficial' DJ at many "Pillars" events, weddings, and quinceañeras. Most recently, Carlos worked at the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Pontiac, where his personality and attitude allowed him to quickly move up to a supervising role.
Carlos loved his family, and especially his daughter, Emilia Rose. Everyone that met or knew Carlos was instantly drawn to his charismatic personality, charming smile, and his serene ("chill") outlook on life; he knew how to bring out the best in people and how to bring people together. He enjoyed road trips, venturing out to big cities like Chicago, a wide variety of music, and he loved exploring different culinary styles. He loved his "original" tacos, a good barbecue, drunken noodles, and good ("wide variety") buffets.
Carlos will be most remembered for his warm smile, funny sense of humor, and gentle heart. Carlos never hesitated to lend a helping hand, a listening ear, or a caring hug. He will be greatly missed by everyone he met and loved. He touched so many people's hearts and lives, and his memory will live forever in our hearts.
