Carlos Gene Blankenship, 87, of Greenup, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at UK King's Daughters Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Gene was born on July 20, 1938, in Princeton, West Virginia, to the late Charles G. Blankenship and Polly Perry Blankenship. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vada Nichols Blankenship, and three sisters, Charlotte Jones, Patricia Bell, and Phyllis Mazell.

Gene formerly attended the Wurtland Church of God and retired from Fannin Glass Company. He was an ordained minister for more than 30 years, faithfully serving the Lord and sharing his faith with others. Gene was a Kentucky Colonel, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a true friend to many. His family meant everything to him, and his unwavering devotion to God and commitment to being a godly example for his family were unmatched.

Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Carlos Blankenship of Franklin Furnace and Charles Blankenship of Greenup; two daughters, Belinda Fletcher (Mike) of Greenup and Michelle Rhodes (Chad) of Greenup; 11 grandchildren, Shawna, Mark, Misty, Staci, Brittany, Ashley, Breanna, Kara, Dakota, Steven, Levi, and 13 great grandchildren, Ava, Brooklyn, Tucker, Canaan, Dalton, Aiden, Isaac, Nylah, Kyston, Emily, Jacob, Hayley, and Alex.

Funeral services for Gene will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Wurtland Church of God , with Bishop Chester Keathley officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday at the church. Burial will follow the service at Brick Union Cemetery, where Gene will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Vada.
