Yesterday

Carlos has been positive and upbeat with every encounter I have had with him over the years. God first and family created the balance in his life. He will be missed.

I´m honored to say Carlos Conejo was a very influential person in my young life. Me, my sister, and my brothers had Coach Conejo for many seasons of Naples High cross country and track in the 1980s and 1990s. Runners then will remember XC meets at the Beach Club, mile repeats on the steaming rubber track, never-ending ab workouts, 16 quarters, and distance out to Gordon´s Pass. It was challenging and rewarding, and everyone felt welcome on the team - a rarity in high school. Coach Conejo and Coach Haralson deserve a great deal of credit for the legacies of the programs they built. I learned so much from Carlos. He was a great runner, mentor, guide, and friend. I am thankful for everything he did for me, my family, friends, and the community. I saw him about a year ago, and we laughed like it was the old times. Carlos will be missed always. Rest in peace, my friend.

So thankful to have had Coach Carlos as my cross-country coach all those years he served as a great mentor in athletics, but also off the field and taught me dedication, commitment, teamwork and how to be a great person. I am so saddened by his death. Coach had always been in my thoughts over the last 30 years as a top five mentor in my life....rest in peace, my friend you are very loved. Anthony M Scine
