Carlos Manuel Sousa Leite, age 70, of Taunton, passed away on March 8, 2026 surrounded by his loving family in Boston, Massachusetts.
He was the beloved husband of Dinesia (DeMelo) Leite.
Born in São Miguel, Açores, he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Mello) Leite. Carlos came to the United States from Portugal at a young age and built a life centered on hard work, dedication, and devotion to his family. A skilled diesel mechanic by trade, he took great pride in his work and in providing for those he loved.
Carlos enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved farming, spending time by the ocean, and taking family vacations that created memories his family will cherish forever. Above all, he was happiest when surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him tremendous joy. Those who knew him will always remember his warm smile and his contagious laugh that so many of us loved.
Affectionately known as “Vovô” to his beloved grandchildren, “Tio Carlos” to his nieces and nephews, and “Charlie” to some close family, Carlos will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, and the deep love he had for his family.
Carlos was preceded in death by his sister, Conceição Leite and brother, Pedro Leite.
Besides his beloved wife Dinesia of 47 years, he is survived by his children Jessica Rockwood and her husband Joshua, Nicole Leite and her spouse Jason, and Derek Leite and his wife Christine; his siblings Joseph Leite, Eulalia Curley, Albert Leite, Helen DeSousa, Robert Leite, and Rosie Leite; and his cherished grandchildren Makenzi and Gianna McDaniels, Laci Rockwood, and Carter and Cameron Leite, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Carlos’ funeral will be held on Friday, March 13th, at 8:30 a.m. from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Anthony Church, School Street, Taunton.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, East Britannia, Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 12th from 5 to 8pm at the Silva Funeral Home. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
