Carlos Soria Obituary
Carlos Soria, a beloved Catholic Deacon at St. Sylvester Catholic Church and a former professional cyclist, passed away on December 17, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 92. Born on February 12, 1933, in Torreon, Mexico, Carlos's journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to his faith, a passion for cycling, and a love for woodworking that brought joy to those around him.
His dedication as a deacon allowed him to serve his community and embrace the teachings of the Church, where he provided guidance and support to countless individuals. His role at St. Sylvester Catholic Church exemplified his unwavering devotion and significant impact within his parish.
As a professional cyclist in Mexico, Carlos demonstrated remarkable athleticism and perseverance, earning respect and admiration from his peers. His love for the sport remained with him throughout his life, reflecting his disciplined nature and adventurous spirit.
In addition to his religious and professional pursuits, Carlos found solace and creativity in woodworking, crafting beautiful pieces that will now serve as lasting memories of his craftsmanship and artistry for his family.
Carlos is survived by his loving spouse, Leticia, and their children: George Soria (Martha), Maria Soria, Alejandra Soria (Ramiro), Carlos Soria (Sandra), Steve Soria (Maria), Patricia Soria (Jesse), and Moses Soria (Jacqueline). He was also a proud grandfather to 18 grandchildren: Georgie, Amanda, Ashley, Mitch, Amber, Edwin, Carlos, Bianca, Alejandro, Elizabeth, Carlos, Lorena, Nayelli, Cassidy, Gavin, Yasmine, Moses Jr., and Jason. Carlos leaves behind 9 great-grandchildren: Caden, Brooklyn, Peyton, Sophia, Franco, Christian, MJ, Gia, and Gabrielle, each of whom brought him immense joy and love.
A memorial Mass in honor of Carlos Soria will be held on December 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Sylvester Catholic Church (Jesus Bread Of Life Parish), located at 2157 N Humboldt Blvd, Chicago, IL 60647. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating the remarkable life he led and the legacy he leaves behind.
Carlos Soria's memory will forever remain alive in the hearts of his family and the community he served so faithfully. His spirit of kindness, commitment to his faith, and love for his family and friends will be deeply missed.
