Carmelita Palaganas Huisken, age 78, of Long Lake, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at her home on October 19, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on April 12, 1947, in Guimba, Philippines. As a young woman, Carmelita immigrated to the United States in search of new opportunities. She first settled in Hawaii, where she helped raise her beloved nieces and nephews and later met her husband, Keith. Together, they moved to Minnesota, where they built a life and family together for more than 52 years.
Carmelita was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Keith Huisken; her sons Bryan (Pam) Huisken, with grandsons, Cade and Jax; and Eric (Rebecca) Huisken, with grandsons Blake, Everett, and granddaughter Willow. Known for her vibrant spirit and generosity, Carmelita shared her gifts with everyone around her. She had a passion for cooking and a knack for creating delicious meals out of anything on hand favorites included her famous tiny egg rolls and cherry chocolate cake. She worked for 16 years at the U.S. Postal Service, where she was known not only for her strong work ethic but also for her ability to bring people together through her kindness and warmth.
Though she built a life in Minnesota, Carmelita's heart never left her homeland. She often returned to the Philippines, bringing food, clothing, and supplies to those in need, sharing her blessings freely.
Her faith in Jesus Christ guided her life and gave her peace at its end. Some of her final words were, "See you in Heaven," which reflected her deep trust in God's promise of eternal life.
A celebration of Carmelita's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Calvin Presbyterian Church in Long Lake, Minnesota.
