Carmen Carter Obituary
lived a life full of courage, joy, and dedication to those she loved. She was the beloved wife of the late Gary A. Carter Sr. and the devoted mother of Allen M. Carter, Sharron J. Carter, Nicole Carter, Stormy L. Hay, Gary A. Carter Jr and Talon P. Amado. A proud matriarch, Carmen leaves behind 23 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, all of whom brought her endless pride and happiness. Her family was the center of her world, and she loved each of them with all of her heart.
Carmen is survived by her siblings Margaret Torres Vasquez of Pomfret, CT; Jesus Torres Vasquez of Westerly, RI; Juanita Torres Ortiz of Playita Cortada, PR; and Josephine Torres Vasquez of Wakefield, RI.
She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Torres Vasquez. She will also be missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In her younger years, Carmen was a talented athlete-an avid softball player and a record-breaking track and field star in high school. Her competitive spirit, determination, and natural talent left a lasting impression on everyone who saw her shine. Carmen also cherished life's simple joys. She loved to play cards, dance, and cook, sharing laughter, music, and delicious meals with the people she cared about most. Her warmth, humor, and generosity made every gathering brighter. Carmen will be remembered for her strength, her kindness, and her unwavering love for her family.
She will be deeply and forever missed. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Calabrese Club, 28 Pleasant St., Westerly, RI.
