Oliviere, Carmen A.
WATERFORD - Carmen A. Oliviere of Waterford, formerly of Watervliet, went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2025, surrounded in his home by his loving family. He graduated from Watervliet High School in 1949. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather. Carmen was predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe and Antonetta Oliviere; brothers, Augustine and Giovanni (John) Oliviere; and son, David. He is survived by his wife, Gail, of 70 years; son, Mark (Wan) of Colonie; daughter, Renee Schultz (Chet) of Va.; and son, Joe (Stephanie) of N.H. Carmen's legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, Amanda Neaton (Rich), Mark Oliviere Jr. (Kristin), Danielle Roeber (Jared) and Ryan Schultz (Jasmine); as well as his nine great-grandchildren. Born in 1931, in Watervliet, Carmen was a carpenter, builder and contractor. He was first employed in the Grand Union Food Chain. He then went on as an apprentice carpenter with a local contractor. After two years, he started his own business as a local contractor. He was a member and past president of the Tibbits Cadets of Troy, member of the Peck Hose Fire Company of North Side, former member of the Waterford Emergency Team and also served on the Board of Fire Commissioners for the Northside Fire District of Waterford. He was a longtime Bocci player with the Waterford Bocci League, member of the VFW Post 5800 of Waterford and member of the Senior Citizens of Waterford. Carmen served with the New York National Guard and was Honorably Discharged with the rank of SFC as a Korean Veteran in the Army. He enjoyed fishing, clamming on Cape Cod, camping with his family, spending winters in Fla., creatively designing and crafting custom woodworking projects including toys for his grandchildren. He was a master carpenter and whenever you asked him for advice on a project and what it may cost, he would always say, "I have to check my book." His skill enabled him to build everything from a doll house to our home. When his health allowed, he faithfully attended St. Mary's Church, Waterford. When he no longer could attend, he faithfully participated in Sunday Mass virtually from his home. Special thanks to niece, Amanda Neaton, from our family for her expert guidance and insight as a CDPHP employee which provided great comfort to Carmen and to us. In addition, the family recognizes that with the caring presence of hospice, Carmen's final days were as comfortable as possible. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad St. (Rt. 32), Waterford, and at 10 a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
