Carmen Ramirez Obituary

Carmen Angela Ramirez passed away unexpectedly on October 30, 2023, from a stroke. Born on May 31, 1930, she was 93 years old. A native of San Diego, California, she spent her childhood in the Old Town area of the county, with her adult years in Otay Mesa and Bonita.
Carmen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Baldemiro 'Val' Anastacio Ramirez. Survivors include her brother Joaquin 'Ken' Banda, four children, Sonia Theriault (Donald), Belinda Reyes, Carlos Ramirez (Lisa), and Michael Ramirez (Gayle), nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Regal, kind, and loving, Carmen was devoted to her family and church. As a young child, Carmen spent much of her time playing on the beach while her father worked at the Hotel del Coronado. During her teenage years, she worked at one of San Diego's many shipyards. She married Val Ramirez after high school, whom she'd met through her best friend. In the early years of her marriage, Carmen worked alongside Val on their ranch in Otay Mesa, the two later establishing an ironwork business in Chula Vista. Carmen subsequently took employment with San Diego Unified School District and, later, Southwestern Community College, retiring from there years later.
An active woman with a zest for life, Carmen enjoyed dancing, listening to mariachi music, gardening, reading, antiques, craft fairs, traveling, gourmet dining, and wine tasting.
Some of Carmen's greatest joys revolved around her ecclesiastical life and her love of God and Jesus Christ. She was part of a Carmelite group, performed as a Eucharistic minister, and spent many years leading Catholic Bible study. These moments were cherished by her and truly made her smile.
Carmen was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, friend, and so much more. She was a shining light and a guiding hand, and we will dearly miss her.
