Carol Anne O'Donnell

Carol Anne O'Donnell passed away peacefully on 10/20/2022 in Farmington Hills Michigan. We are very grateful for the outstanding compassionate care that she received at Pleasant Valley Senior Care. She is survived by her four children Larry (Ruth), Anne (the late Enzo), Tom (Denise) and Jim (Lupita). She was a beloved grandmother to Ellen, Becca, Matthew (Alexandra), Emily (Curt), Casey, Michael (Sara), Francesca, Nick, Cassandra and Miranda. She was a great-grandmother to Evie, Judah, Isaiah, Adalynn and Lillyanne. Carol Anne worked for the Chicago Public School System for over 30 years as a science teacher (Hubbard High School) then as a guidance counselor beside her fellow co-counselor Mr. Byrd for the last 25 years of her career at Curie High School. Carol Anne proudly served her country in the US Marines (1954-1956) and in the US Army Reserves. She served in Saudi Arabia during DESERT STORM (1990-1991) with the rank of Colonel and was one of the senior ranking female officers in DESERT SHIELD/STORM. In 1995, she retired from military service. She was active with the VFW Post 10778 in Western Springs Illinois. She was also the author of their POW/MIA Newsletter and held the distinction of being the only mother/son Colonel duo in the same VFW Post in America. She most enjoyed having close contact with her extended and growing family. She will be missed. There will be a memorial mass at St. John of the Cross Church at 11 am on Saturday 12/3/2022 in Western Springs Illinois. In lieu of flowers, her children request that a donation be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or a charity of your choice.
