Carol Marie Boettcher, 91, of Wausau, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in the Palliative Care Unit of Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Carol's life started in the Townline Market area of Wausau on January 31, 1934, she was the second daughter of the late Harry and Beryl (Kimball) Zick.
She completed her required schooling and graduated from Wausau High School on June 12, 1952. Later that same year, she reached another important milestone when, in symbol of her dedication to her God Jehovah, Carol was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on October 12.
After moving to and living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a time, Carol met Maynard A. Boettcher who would become her husband. They were married at the courthouse in Milwaukee on August 10, 1960. They made both the city of Milwaukee and Hubertus, Wisconsin their home in their early married years. Those years also brought them two sons, Clint Maynard, born May 19, 1964, and Mark Daniel, born November 10, 1965.
In 1969, after much thought and planning, they moved their young family to Wausau to be closer to Carol's aging parents. While Maynard landed employment with Green Bay Packaging, Carol found opportunities to grow at Hal's Red Owl Grocery, Employers Insurance Company and Eastbay Shoe and Athletic Apparel. Carol, however, made special effort not to allow her employment to interfere with her volunteering considerable time to helping others come to learn about God's Kingdom through a study of God's Word. She especially found joy in serving as a "sounding board" and "second mother" to many from all parts of the country. Her empathetic demeanor and ability to offer frank advice in a loving way endeared her to many.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband Maynard in November 1995; her parents Harry and Beryl Zick both in 1997, and nephew Michael A. Schmidt in May of this year.
Carol is survived by her sister Beverly (Boots) Schmidt and her husband Don of Oshkosh; her sons Clint (Lynn) of Wausau, and Mark (Mary) of Malone, Wisconsin; grandchildren Samantha Boettcher and Alex Boettcher of Malone, Wisconsin; nephew Wayne (Debbie) Schmidt of Oshkosh; Nancy Schmidt of Winneconne, as well as many cousins, friends and very special neighbors.
Per Carol's request, no memorial services will be held.
Mid-Wisconsin Cremation Society, of Schofield, WI, is currently assisting the family. Online condolences can be made at MWCS.WS.

Earlier today

Mary was such a wonderful person and neighbor to my mother, Violet Westfall. May all the memories you made with her ease the pain in your heart. Some day when you least expect it a smile will cross your face and warm your heart.
